Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – James Professional Practice

Why PLA?
When I was offered the opportunity to be on the PLA Board, I was honored and ready to serve. My current professional and evidence-based practice work is multidisciplinary and focused on an academic medical center. However, healthcare is everywhere and the Columbus Medical Association Physician Leadership Academy is inclusive of physicians everywhere. I believe that building relationships across all systems will make a difference at the personal, local, regional and national levels.

Background
I have more than 20 years of experience as a Registered Nurse and more than 10 years as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. Prior to joining The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center - The James, Amy held numerous Registered Nursing positions in hospitals, colleges, and government in Ohio. She was the Practice Consultant for the Ohio Board of Nursing and was the Breast Health Nurse for Blanchard Valley Health System. She joined The James in 2008 where her work has focused on creating a caring and healing environment through relationships with self, colleagues, patients and families and communities. As an evidence-based practice mentor, she implements activities and interventions that support relationships in healthcare and the caring and healing environment.
My educational background is diverse. I received a Post-Master’s Certificate in Psych-Mental Health Advanced Nurse Practice from The Ohio State University, a Master of Science in Nursing in family and community nursing from Capital University, a Master of Arts in Lay Ministry from Trinity Lutheran Seminary, and a Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing from Bowling Green State University. Being on the ground floor of new organizations is not new to me. I was the founder of Special Kids Therapy, Inc. a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children with special health care needs and their families get funding for therapies not covered by state and private insurance.
